Mooncalf

nobody used it
grass was eye high
it sat empty
I stood empty

we matched
each other
fine.

I found bottom
I sat concrete
knees to chin ...
rocking calmly

It's amazing how
the tap of sneakers
sounds

when you've
found a place to be
underground.

It's the pool
that holds the gruel
for this mooncalf.

its just down the road
in Pirates Cove
the complex.
oh so complex

every rusted roof
spoke the truth
no one
lived or died here
no one
ever tried here.

pools were ribboned
with split covers
autumn winds ...
& rain waters

I found one
I discovered
just a small tear
in the cover
so I went down in.
settled in
for life.

It's the pool
that holds the gruel
for this mooncalf.

They called me Mooncalf
at school

someone read
that it meant
imbecile

they struck ...
Mooncalf stuck

I don't blame them
I;m not cruel

I have big eyes
I move slowly.
I don't want anyone
to love me.

I just want to find a place
to call my own.

I found one
I discovered
just a small tear
in the cover
so I went down in.
settled in
for life.

It's the pool
that holds the gruel
for this mooncalf
